Week 7 - Matthew 8 v 23-27

Matthew 8

New International Version

Jesus Calms the Storm

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

1.      What do you know about which disciples may have been qualified to sail a boat?

2.      Was Jesus aware that a storm was about to arise?

3.      What did the disciples feel about Jesus sleeping with such danger around?

4.      Did the disciples show that they believed they would reach the other side when Jesus gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. (v18).

5.      Was it necessary for the disciples to wake Jesus in order for them to get to the other side of the lake safely.

6.      When Jesus replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” was it a true assessment of their faith?

7.      When he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it went completely calm was it beyond the disciples’ thoughts that it was possible?

8.      “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” What does this statement tell us about who Jesus really is about the source of power he had to do it?
